My Writing Background
After gaining my honours degree in English from Newcastle University, it took me a while to decide what I wanted to do when I grew up. After a while, I returned to the university sector as a freelance copywriter, working on prospectuses and course brochures.
When my husband, David, became a full-time freelance photographer, I helped manage his communications and marketing. We like to work together on words-and-picture packages for magazines and businesses.
My Freelance Writing Services
As a writer, what I have to offer is simple: well-written copy, in a tone that suits your needs, free from grammar and proofing errors.
I pay close attention not only to the words I’m writing but also to their appearance on the page. The result is copy that reads well and looks attractive, too.
A piece of text is often the first contact a potential customer has with your business. It follows that that piece of text should mind its manners and wear its Sunday best! I’m here to make sure it does just that.
Copy-Editing and Proofreading Services
I have extensive experience as a copy-editor and proofreader. I have worked for Ammonite Press on several of their Biographics titles. I am also Editorial Assistant for Aerostat, the bi-monthly magazine of the British Balloon and Airship Club.
My devotion to the cause of good grammar and punctuation knows no bounds: I have been known to peel misplaced apostrophes from self-adhesive advertising hoardings. That’s how seriously I take my job…
In My Spare Time…
My interests include classical music, theatre and cinema, travel, architecture, art and design.
I play the cello, and make up a fifth of a piano quintet with some friends. We don’t play in public, but we do have fun.
I’m also a keen ornithologist, and enjoy long walks in the countryside. Northumberland has plenty of birds to watch, and lots of countryside to walk in.
Why Hire Me?
I deliver on time, with enthusiasm, energy, and close attention to detail. I’m personable and good-humoured, and pride myself on my professionalism.
If I sound like the sort of person you’d like to work with, why not get in touch? I’m always happy to have an informal, no obligation chat. I look forward to hearing from you.
